Denver is the capitol and largest city in the state of Colorado. Denver is nicknamed “The Mile High City” because it is exactly one mile above sea level, or 5,280 feet. There is a blue marker in front of the capitol building that marks the exact evelevation on 5,280, however the elevtion around the remaining areas of Denver can range from 5,130 to 5,690 feet.
In 2014 the estimated population of Denver was 663,862, and it was ranked the 21st largest city in the USA. Denver was founded in 1858 as a mining town during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush. Denver, Colorado is know for its local breweries, we have more micro brews than any other state in the nation. Our restaurant scene is top notch and of course we have no shortage of watering holes in downtown. Denver is home to four major sports teams; - The Denver Broncos - Football - Colorado Rockies - Baseball - Colorado Avalanche – Hockey - Denver Nuggets – Basketball A 2011 study by Walk Score ranked Denver sixteenth most walkable of fifty largest U.S. cities. |
